Semaglutide is a peptide commonly known as Ozempic. It is a GLP1-RA and works by slowing down the rate in which food is digested. When this occurs, simply put: the food stays in your stomach longer causing you to feel full for longer periods of time; thus needing less food.
Common side effects include:
n/v, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, diabetic retinopathy, eructation, appetite decrease (pill form), hypoglycemia (injection form), dyspepsia, abdominal distention (pill form), GERD, flatulence, gastritis, injection site reaction, and an increase in lipase and amylase.
Contraindicated in people with:
History of pancreatitis, history of alcoholism, renal problems, pregnancy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetes type I, hypersensitivity to drug or ingredient, medullary thyroid cancer, family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or multiple neoplasia syndrome type 2
The injection is given subcutaneously weekly
